I imaged where we are going to film and how I need to act in this film before we really start filming. The places we want are a small room with a table and an alley way, and I drew a storyboard for representing how my film will unfold, shot by shot. Here is my storyboard:
 Choosing Location
Choosing location is a very important thing when you making a film, and it took me about 2 weeks to find a very long and narrow alley way. After I finished filming in the alley way, I found this alley way is exactly what I am looking for.
I did not use any plugin to make a fake rain. The day I went out shooting was a rainy day. All the water droplets and poundings you see in the film are real.
I wore the ring on right hand during filming the first scene, and I intentionally wore the ring on left hand in the final scene. The reason I did this because I am trying to show the audience what kind of changes does the protagonist have when the different personality dominate the body, not only his clothes, but also the position of his ring.
I bought a fake club and a bottle of fake blood online, and I did use them properly in the film.
For showing the difference when the different personality dominate the protagonist’s body, I asked for help with make up. This make up below shows what the protagonist looks like when the bad personality dominate the body.
 Spotlight Use
When I editing my film, I used spotlight properly, which effectively created a dark and gloomy atmosphere in the room. Here is the difference:
I am currently studying in a media foundation course. Modules that I have on this course include subjects, such as film, media theory, journalism, marketing an advertisement. Every term subjects swop, so from September until now I’ve done only film and media theory.
In this section you can find out my film analysis, which I have done as a part of course work. Moreover, in this section you also can find 2 advert analysis and 1 film poster analysis, which I produced on my own during this term. Here is the link to Media Analysis.
This is one of McDonald’s advertising pictures.
People can clearly see that there is a McDonald’s clown who holds a burger standing behind the mirror and use his finger to write a sentence on the mirror. “WHY SO DELICIOUS ? M” he wrote by using ketchup. The main colors of this image are dark orange and red. These two colors looks not very clean and bright, so they make readers feeling quite depressive and comfortless. He wears a yellow jump suit and it looks so dirty and unclean when it is full of darkness and shadows. Also the background is almost transparent, readers barely can see the outline of the shop of McDonalds.
We all know that this flown uses ketchup to write on the mirror but it looks so scary because the ketchup looks so similar to blood and he writes the sentence in capital words. It is so scared for reader to read. Especially the capital word W just covers on the clown’s smiling face and it makes the clown looks extremely unfriendly and horrible.
In my opinion, I do not really agree that this is a good and helpful advertising picture for McDonalds company. It does not look attractive and friendly for readers and I do not really think that this picture can satisfy customer’s appetites.
The main color in this image is cyan. Such as background and the light in the center of image. This color is very clean, and it makes reader comfortable. It may connote cleanness, fresh and comfort. This scent bottle is made by glass which may connote pure, simple and modern, and the bottleneck set with silver metal which might connote shining expense and riches. The male model is wearing a black leather jacket and jeans, this color may connote matureness and low profile.
The male model looks very serious and confident on his face, it may connote the matureness, calmness and wild. There is a shapely young women sitting on the man’s shoulder and his right hand is gently holding a women’s leg, maybe because the man is so attractive and this women is bewitched by this man, it may connote success and fascination. The man bends his leg and sits on the sofa, he is relaxing and it makes him looking so successful, victorious and supreme.
The brand name on this image is using serif and it is not bold. Everything looks classic and simple. The color of the name is white, it may connote pure and clean. There is a shot slogan which is under the perfume bottle. It tells us who the man is – Kit Harington. This perfume might represents rights and wild ambition because Kit Harington is the actor in Game of Thrones and obviously he is a powerful man in that show.
There is a light at the middle of the image which crosses between models and the perfume. On the left side, it’s a woman who sitting on the Kit Harington’s shoulder. On the right side, the brand name is over the perfume. what this image trying to tell the reader is Kit Harington and perfume, both signifiers are equal. Once the reader starts using the perfume, than he will be a charming person as same as Kit Harington!
Personally I think that this is a successful advert image, the man reflects how powerful this perfume is and makes the customers being attractive if they use it.
This is one of posters from the film BURIED. There are lots of information we can analyze from this image.
People barely can see a man who wears T- shirt and lies down in a dark place. He holds a lighter and the fire constrainedly lights up his face and chest. there is a woody wall behind him, and the place he lies in is surrounded by darkness.
Obviously he is buried in the deep ground and it is a mystery of where he is or where he can be. Sand might connote that he is buried in a desert. he is still alive and can use lighter, it may means he lies in a box. The space in that box is not enough for him to move because he can even open his arms and the lighter can not light up the upper place. It may means that he is in a narrow and limited woody coffin.
Things which are closer to the fire are clearer to see, so it might shows how important of that fire is when the man stays in this kind of situation, and it may connotes hope and expectancy. A narrow and limited coffin indicates non-free feature, loneliness and helplessness. Being buried in the ground or desert might shows despair and how hopeless that man is. Also it is easy to see that the coffin is made by woods, and there are few cracks on those woods, so sand might comes in the coffin and it connotes the dangerous situation.
The film name which is BURIED is slightly higher than the man’s body. All letters are all using capital and SansSerif font and these letters are corroded by sand except letter I, because letter I is replaced by fire, as i said at the beginning the fire means hope. Those rest of letters could be his lifeline, and his life will be over when they are all completely corroded by sand. There are some slogans which are on the top of the poster. Size of letters is quite small. “DEEP DESERT”, “LACK OF OXYGEN” and “NO WAY OUT” these information clearly shows again how depressive and oppressive that man is.
Last thing people might notice is that the main actor of this film is Ryan Reynolds. His name which on the poster is painted by red color, it looks like quite scary and dangerous. I quite like this film poster because it really shows that how depressive this man is and what terrible surroundings and situation he stays with by using those dark and black colors and I feel so suffocating when I looking at this poster. I believe that it is a successful film poster.
As a part of film and media course works, I have produced a film analysis of ‘Phone Booth’.

SPLIT is a 2017 thriller short film which directed by Ruiyang Zhang (filmed by Jiayue Wang and voiced by Shelcia Rita).
The protagonist is a good and righteous male character, he finds out the mysterious evil male character’s address with a woman’s help. After the protagonist hangs up the phone and leaves the room, he goes to the place that mysterious man lives, he finds that place is actually a dark and horrific alleyway. He has the courage to walk in because he has to find out that mysterious man. When the protagonist almost goes through the whole alleyway, suddenly he is hit and falls to the ground by a man who wears a black hooded coat. When the protagonist wakes up, he finds he is still in the room which is same as the room at the beginning, and he wears the same black hooded coat as that mysterious man wears. The woman who helped the protagonist at the beginning calls him again, she finds the protagonist’s voice and attitude are totally different compared the beginning. The truth is that mysterious man is actually a personality in the protagonist’s mind, and this evil man’s personality dominates the protagonist’s body after he hit and killed the righteous personality. The protagonist is a schizophrenia patient. Everything is happening in his mind, includes that alleyway, and that is why he wakes up in the room rather than the dark alleyway, because he never left that room.
The short film SPLIT uses a variety of shot size (from long shots to extreme close-up) and camera angles to represent different scene, plenty of tracking shots shows how the protagonist searches the alleyway and low key lighting represents the dark, horrific and mysterious atmosphere.
